Source: Active Schools Acceleration Project (Tufts University)
Program: ASAP Acceleration Grant
Eligibility: Be a US elementary school For example, serving K-5, K-6, K-8, K-12, etc. Applications from public, private, charter, or parochial schools all welcome. 2. Have a “Champion” ready to take the lead! What makes a Champion? Champions are motivated leaders who are dedicated to bringing quality physical activity programs to their students. A Champion can be anyone, a teacher, parent, or coach who is passionate about this cause and has close ties and deep familiarity with their school community. Most importantly though a Champion is willing, able, and eager to take on responsibility for launching their school’s chosen program and seeing it through over the course of the school year. This will include working with your school’s administration, recruiting volunteers, planning program implementation, and motivating others to help you launch a successful program during the 2013/14 school year. Your application should be completed by your school's Champion. 3. Build a Team that is ready to lend a hand! Identify at least two "Supporters" who have agreed to help your school’s Champion launch your new program. Who can be a Supporter? Supporters may be teachers, parents, coaches, or other volunteers excited by this cause. Supporters will work closely with their school’s Champion to launch this new program by generating excitement, securing buy-in from the school community, and helping with the logistics of program implementation. 4. Get your administration on board. Start the conversation. Have the support of your school’s principal or superintendent prior to submitting an application. 5. Be ready to get your school moving! Recipients of an ASAP Acceleration Grant are expected to use funds to launch an ASAP program at their school during the 2013/14 school year. Recipients must also be ready, willing, and able share their experiences with ASAP, including progress you are making and hurdles you encounter. Launching a brand new program is a big commitment. Be sure you are ready to embark on this path before applying!
