Eligibility: 1. The applicant has identified a problem and clear ways to combat it. Do Something Award winners understand the inner workings of the community* they are working with, have a thorough knowledge of the problem they are tackling and have devised clear and measurable methods for addressing this problem. 2. The applicant is passionate and committed to empowering the community* in which s/he works. Do Something Award winners have made a significant long-term commitment to improving the lives of others. 3. The applicant has cultivated long-term and respectful relationships within his/her community. Do Something Award winners are trusted and respected members of their communities and have worked hard to build and leverage long-term relationships and empower and partner with other community members. 4. The applicant demonstrates that s/he has directly and individually fueled the success of his/her work. Do Something Award winners are program founders and/or leading activist/advocates. Their involvement and leadership are integral to the success of their program or cause. 5. The applicant has extensively and tangibly improved the lives of others. The Do Something Award is not for ideas. Do Something Award winners have already created a significant impact and tangibly improved the lives of others in measurable, concrete ways. 6. The applicant has created great awareness about his/her issue or cause. Do Something Award winners exhibit excellent communication skills, which they use to motivate and mobilize community members, promote their programs, and develop relationships with media, government, other not-for-profits, individuals, and funders. 7. The applicant has a long-term vision for the growth and sustainability of his/her work. The Do Something Award winners have a clear growth plan for their work that ensures sustainability and continued impact. 8. The applicant is the “best-in-class” in his/her issue. Do Something Award winners are recognized as top leaders within their issue or cause. Many applicants may be working to combat the issue of gun violence, but the Do Something Award winner is the one who is making the most impact. 9. The applicant is confident and enthusiastic about being a leader. Do Something Award winners aren’t reluctant heroes. Purpose: Since 1996, DoSomething.org Has Honored The Nation’s Best Young World-changers, 25 And Under. Do Something Award Nominees And Winners Represent The Pivotal "do-ers" In Their Field, Cause, Or Issue. In 2013 Five Finalists Will Appear On The Do Something Awards On Vh1 And Be Rewarded With A Community Grant, Media Coverage And Continued Support From DoSomething.org. The Grand Prize Winner Will Receive $100,000 During The Broadcast.
