Eligibility: Not-for-profit organizations around the world working to expand access to these science and technology, especially computer science fields for K-12/Pre-University students, specifically girls and underrepresented groups. Organizations are eligible to apply if they are either: Running a successful program in CS that they want to expand in terms of reach and depth of impact. Currently running a successful wide-reaching program in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) that they want to grow to include CS. At a minimum, programs should have regional reach (city, county or state) with the potential to scale nationally and collaborate internationally with similar organizations. Programs must target girls and/or underrepresented minority students up to the age of 18. This is not open to programs targeting students already enrolled in University. Previous RISE awardees may apply if adding a new dimension to former programs.
Purpose: Marielena Ivory Of Google's K12/Pre-University Education Outreach Program Wrote In An Aug. 1 Post On The Google Official Blog. "Inspiring The Next Generation Of Scientists And Engineers Is Crucially Important—breakthroughs Don't Happen Without People To Make Them," Wrote Ivory. "We Want Students To Not Just Be Consumers Of Technology, But Also Creators Of It; To Enrich Not Only Their Own Lives, But Those Of Their Communities. That's The Motivation Behind The Google RISE Awards." The Annual Awards Are Designed To Promote And Support Education Initiatives To Increase Engagement In Science And Technology, Especially Computer Science, According To Ivory's Post.
