2014 National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year Program

Type: Foundations
Source: Dow Jones News Fund
Program: 2014 National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year Program
An advisory panel will review the applications. It will weigh each teacher’s
service in local, state or national organizations, personal awards, the quality of their students, their philosophy and approach to student press rights and ethics. Applicants are also asked to identify an issue they would like to address as Teacher of the Year.

We seek those with at least three years’ experience who have been honored as lifetime achievement, state or regional winners by local, state and regional groups. Professional media and press associations are invited to forward candidates from their competitions.
Purpose: he program identifies outstanding high school journalism teachers with at least three years' experience who have done exemplary work in the previous academic year. While others (including students) can submit nomination letters for a teacher, the application form must be completed by the teacher. Teachers are asked to confine their responses to a total of five typed pages. No more than three letters of support may be submitted along with the application, in addition to an updated resume, a high-resolution headshot of the teacher and six copies of two editions of newspapers or newsmagazines or printouts of web-only editions published during the current school year. Submissions for the 2014 Teacher of the Year Awards program must be postmarked no later than July 9, 2014. Click here to download the form.
