2014 National Mentoring Programs

Type: Federal
Source: U.S Dept of Justice
Program: 2014 National Mentoring Programs
Eligibility:
Applicants are limited to national organizations, defined as having active chapters or subawardees in at least 45 states. Please note: This eligibility language represents a change from the National Mentoring solicitation posted on March 28, 2014. For purposes of this solicitation, two or more independent organizations that form a collaborative to cover 45 states do not meet the definition of a national organization. The organization's national headquarters must submit the application, and OJJDP requires successful applicants to subaward 90 percent of this award to at least 38 of the states where they have a presence. Forprofit organizations must agree to forgo any profit or management fee.
Purpose:
This program supports the implementation and delivery of one-to-one, group, and peer mentoring services to at-risk, high-risk, or underserved youth populations through national mentoring organizations and their chapters or subawardees. This program also supports one or more enhancements of services to both improve the access to and impact of mentoring services.

For the purpose of this solicitation, mentoring programs should support a structured relationship between an adult or trained peer and one or more youth. Mentoring promotes positive behaviors, attitudes, and outcomes for youth and reduces risk-factors. It has been shown to improve academic performance and/or social or job skills, support behavioral or other personal development, and reduce consumption of alcohol and other drugs. Successful mentoring programs include matches between a mentor and one or more youth; mentoring can take place
in multiple and informal settings or in a school or program context.

This program encourages the implementation of evidence-based practices that research and evaluations have demonstrated to be associated with the best results.
Deadline: 05-27-2014
